Brick Slips Aren’t Designed to Hide Every Problem

There’s no denying that our homes can cost us a lot of money when it comes to maintaining them. All kinds of problems can arise, some that cost very little to fix and others that require more money to put right. Our walls can experience a range of problems such as cracks although damp can also be an issue. Whatever the problem might be, taking the “out of sight, out of mind” approach might not work and that’s why you should always take the right steps when it comes to installing brick slips.

Brick Slips Work!

The main thing to consider is that brick slips are an amazing option when it comes to improving the look of your home. They can be installed quickly and easily, helping to transform any space. They come in a range of colours and styles, ensuring you can create a look that’s right for you. However, there are some things that you need to consider when it comes to brick slips because you shouldn’t use them to hide problems instead, you should focus on solving the problem first.

Damp Walls

Damp walls are a real problem and that’s because finding the source of water can be really difficult. It could be an easy issue to fix or it could be an expensive problem but either way, damp is a problem that needs sorting

It might be tempting to install brick slips over the top of damp as that will hide it but the problem still persists. When you have damp, you can suffer from mould and what’s more, you won’t be able to fix your brick slips to the wall correctly. With damp walls, your brick slips won’t be able to grip the walls correctly. As a result, it will mean that the adhesive becomes too wet. For adhesive to set correctly, it’s vital that the conditions are right. With too much moisture, the adhesive won’t be able to dry out correctly, causing your brick slips to fail.

Cracked Walls

Cracked walls are unsightly and might seem like a small problem but you shouldn’t assume that this is the case. Brick slips will certainly hide the problem but you should look to get this sorted first.

A crack could mean that there are real structural issues and that could result in movement. If you put brick slips over top of a wall that is suffering with structure problems then they will crack and eventually fall away too. Cracked plaster or cracked and damaged walls could also cause problems. It could mean that your brick slips don’t have a solid grip on the wall and that could result in the brick slips coming away from the wall.

So, it might seem tempting to hide damaged walls with brick slips but you need to make sure that the walls are perfect. Brick slips are amazingly versatile and they will hide issues but you need to make sure that you always achieve a solid bond with the wall as that will help them to last.
